Sexual Health Education
As part of the 5th Grade health standards, students will learn about the changes that occur during puberty and how to practice proper hygiene. The fifth grade puberty and hygiene presentation will be presented to the students on Thursday, March 16. A presentation and video will be shown to the students followed by a class discussion lead by nursing students of the SDSU Nursing Department. The boys and girls will be in separate classes but will watch both videos and will be presented the same information. AEA teachers will also be in the classrooms to support teaching and learning. AEACES acknowledges that parents/guardians are the primary sexual health educators for their child/children and we are committed to partnering with you to provide supplementary resources to support you in this role.
Some of the 5th Grade Health Standards that will be discussed are:
1.3.G. Identify the physical, social, and emotional changes that occur during puberty.
1.9.G. Explain that puberty and physical development can vary considerably and still be normal.
1.10.G. Identify personal hygiene practices and health and safety issues related to puberty (e.g., showering, use of sanitary products, deodorant, and athletic supporters).
2.3.G. Discuss how changes during puberty affect thoughts, emotions, and behaviors.

Educación en salud sexual
Estimadas familias de 5to grado,
Como parte de los estándares de salud de 5to grado, los estudiantes aprenden sobre los cambios que ocurren durante la pubertad y la higiene. La presentación de pubertad e higiene de quinto grado se presentará a los estudiantes el jueves 16 de marzo del 2023. Se mostrará una presentación y un video a los estudiantes, seguido de una discusión en clase dirigida por estudiantes de enfermería del Departamento de SDSU. Los niños y niñas estarán en clases separadas pero viendo los mismo videos y se les presentará la misma información. Los profesores de AEA también estarán en las aulas para apoyar la enseñanza y el aprendizaje. AEACES reconoce que los padres/tutores son los principales educadores de salud sexual para su estudiante y estamos comprometidos a asociarnos con usted para brindarle recursos complementarios que lo apoyen en este rol.
Algunos de los Estándares de Salud de 5to Grado que se discutirán son:
1.3.G. Identificar los cambios físicos, sociales y emocionales que ocurren durante la pubertad.
1.9.G. Explique que la pubertad y el desarrollo físico pueden variar considerablemente y seguir siendo normales.
1.10.G. Identificar las prácticas de higiene personal y los problemas de salud y seguridad relacionados con la pubertad (p. ej., ducharse, usar productos sanitarios, desodorante y soportes deportivos).
2.3.G. Discuta cómo los cambios durante la pubertad afectan los pensamientos, las emociones y los comportamientos.
