Dangers of Synthetic Drugs

In accordance with California Education Code Section 48980 and Assembly Bills 889 and 2690, we are providing this important notice regarding the growing risks associated with synthetic drugs, including fentanyl.

Understanding the Danger

Synthetic drugs such as fentanyl are extremely potent and can be deadly even in very small doses. These drugs are often found in counterfeit pills that may be made to look like common prescription medications such as oxycodone, Xanax, or Adderall. These counterfeit pills are not manufactured by pharmaceutical companies and can contain lethal levels of fentanyl or other harmful substances.

What Parents and Guardians Should Know

  • Fentanyl and other synthetic opioids are highly dangerous. Just 2 milligrams (the size of a few grains of salt) can be fatal.

  • Counterfeit pills are widely circulating and often indistinguishable from legitimate medications.

  • Social media platforms are increasingly being used to market and distribute synthetic drugs, often targeting young people.
