Parent University: Supporting Your Beginning Reader
When: January 19th from 6:00-7:30 PM

Who should attend? Families with students in Transitional Kindergarten, Kindergarten, and 1st Grade.
What will be covered? This presentation will be focused on foundational pre-reading and reading skills for beginning readers. Families will learn the basics about learning to read, along with some of the terminology used when talking about reading skills. Strategies for building your child’s foundational literacy skills through games and activities will be shared, resources will be provided, and there will be time for questions and answers.
This Parent University will be held in person, available via Zoom, and live-streamed on YouTube. A video recording will be available on YouTube to watch later. Spanish and ASL interpretation services will be available during the presentation.
For in-person attendees, dinner and childcare for school-aged children will be provided.

¿A quién va dirigido? Familias con alumnos en Kindergarten de Transición, Kindergarten y 1er Grado.
¿Qué se tratará? Esta presentación se centrará en las habilidades básicas de pre-lectura y lectura para lectores principiantes. Se presentarán los conceptos básicos sobre el aprendizaje de la lectura, junto con parte de la terminología utilizada cuando se habla de habilidades de lectura. Se compartirán estrategias para desarrollar las habilidades básicas de lectura y escritura de su hijo a través de juegos y actividades, se proporcionarán recursos y habrá tiempo para preguntas y respuestas.
Este Taller para Padres se celebrará en persona, se transmitirá por Zoom y en directo en YouTube. Habrá una grabación de vídeo disponible en YouTube para verla más tarde. Habrá servicios de interpretación en español y ASL durante la presentación.
Para los asistentes presenciales, se ofrecerá cena y servicio de guardería para niños en edad escolar.
