Rights under FERPA and California Education Code
In accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and California Education Code Sections 49063 and 49073, Albert Einstein Academies (AEA) is required to inform you annually of your rights regarding your child’s educational records. These rights are designed to protect your privacy and give you control over the disclosure and accuracy of school records.
Your Rights Under FERPA and California Law
- Right to Inspect and Review Educational Records You have the right to inspect and review your student’s education records maintained by AEA within five (5) business days of a written request, in accordance with California law.
- Right to Request Amendment of Records If you believe that information in your student’s records is inaccurate, misleading, or otherwise in violation of privacy rights, you may request in writing that the records be amended.
- Right to Consent to Disclosures AEA must have your written permission to release any information from your child’s education records, except in certain legally authorized circumstances (e.g., school officials with legitimate educational interests, other schools to which your student is transferring, or in emergencies to protect health and safety).
- Right to File a Complaint If you believe AEA has violated FERPA, you may file a complaint with:

Directory Information and Opt-Out Option
FERPA allows AEA to disclose certain student information, called “directory information,” without prior consent unless you notify us in writing to opt out.
Directory information may include:
- Student name
- Grade level
- Dates of attendance
- Participation in school activities
- Awards and honors received
- Photograph for school publications or website
AEA may use directory information in school publications, programs, yearbooks, and website postings.
To opt out of directory information sharing, please submit a written request to the school office within 10 school days of receiving this notice. Opt-out requests will be honored for the duration of the current academic year unless otherwise specified.
