AEA’s free food and technology distribution initiatives continued today; tomorrow marks the end of the fourth week of closures.  We have now issued over 300 computers to families, representing approximately 20% of families in our schools.  If you know of a member of our school community needing a computer for their student to participate in our distance learning, and/or in need of tech support, please direct them to this link on the AEA homepage.

As mentioned in this blog yesterday, we have had tremendous response to the fundraising appeal for the AEA COVID-19 Relief Fund. As of this writing we have raised over $6,200 and counting.  Once again our sincere gratitude goes to all who donated, and more broadly to those who shared this information in the spirit of supporting others.  We are surveying our community to determine other specific humanitarian needs in addition to assembling hygiene bags as originally intended.  I will continue to update the community on this process as it unfolds.

On the academic front, we are in the final stages of crafting the AEA Distance Learning Plan for our community.  We intend to have the final version for our community by this weekend at the latest.  The plan focuses first and foremost on student and family needs, balances academic rigor with the realities of the massive paradigm shift we are experiencing in education, and provides teachers and staff professional latitude within a set of general guidelines and expectations.  More to come soon…

Stay healthy and safe.
