Today is the first day “back to class” from Spring Break for AEA students; clearly this means we are returning in a virtual sense.  Here is a link to the English and Spanish versions of the AEA Distance Learning Plan (DLP).  This plan has also gone out to all AEA families and staff, and is posted prominently on the AEA homepage.  Many thanks to our principals and teacher-leaders for collaborating in creating this plan.  We recognize that like all meaningful plans it is likely to need adjusting going forward, but please know that first and foremost it was created with students’ needs in mind.

As might be expected, this morning saw a surge in families arriving at the AEACMS campus to check out laptops.  Families who still need computers and/or internet access should contact our technology support team and we will set up a one-on-one appointment to meet their needs.

The AEA free meal distribution program continued today for the 21st consecutive weekday.  While there seem to be challenges elsewhere in San Diego County with families accessing school lunches, we have been able to increase distribution efforts to meet demand.  Our team has also sent a survey to all AEA families to determine additional needs in the areas of food, hygiene products and books/educational supplies.  Using generous donations from over 60 individual donors to the AEA Covid-19 Relief Fund, we are working as quickly as possible to meet the needs of our families.  I will continue to update on these efforts over the course of this week.

Finally, the long-awaited marquee is being installed this week at the AEACMS campus.  This will be another powerful tool to keep our community updated.

Stay safe, stay healthy.
